Content description by level
Students are tested regularly and classes are subject to rearrangement to ensure that each student is placed at his or her appropriate level.
■ Beginner level
This level is designed to acquire Japanese ability which is equivalent to level N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Focuses on improving communication skills necessary for daily life applying the grammar, vocabulary, and Kanji learned in the classroom.
■ Intermediate level
This level is designed to acquire Japanese ability which is equivalent to level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. The first half of the intermediate level reviews material from the beginner level so that students can transition smoothly to the intermediate level. The stress here is on applying vocabulary knowledge to constructing meaningful utterances.
The latter half of the intermediate level functions as a “stepping stone” to Advanced in which students acquire the grammar and vocabulary necessary to describe cultural and societal topics in class.
■ Advanced level
This level is designed to acquire Japanese ability which is equivalent to level N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Here students study “real-life” materials such as news broadcasts, newspapers, and magazines to develop a functioning Japanese ability equivalent to that of the typical Japanese high school level. Students acquire the advanced ability in comprehensive Japanese to express themselves logically in the form of opinions or short essays, for example.

Comprehensive learning environment
(1) Homeroom instructor system
Each class has a homeroom teacher whose job it is to teach Japanese as well as offer thoughtful advice on living in Japan and furthering one’s education here in this country.
(2) Well-balanced curriculum
We offer a balanced approach to Japanese language learning, including the four skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We work to broaden all of these skills and apply them to real-life, practical tasks.
(3) Learning Japanese
We offer not only Japanese language programs but opportunities to experience Japanese tradition and culture.
(4) Classes are designed with the JLPT in mind (see below)
All Japanese language coursework is carefully and rigorously geared toward specific levels of the JLPT.
